Greek mythology hails Zeus as the father of gods and men, making him ruler of sky. The shaking of Zeus’s shield (aegis) is believed to enact storms, ruling over thunder and lightning. This bronze sculpture with a green patina shows Zeus raising his left arm with a thunderbolt grasped in his right hand.
