Ayomi Yoshida and the River of Time

In Proof of Life, Japanese artist Ayomi Yoshida ponders one of life’s essential questions: Who am I? During her residency at the Spencer Museum of Art in Lawrence, Kansas, Yoshida explores identity, belonging, and the traces we leave behind in her two installations created in conversation with the Spencer's exhibitions Street Nihonga and Brush, Block, and Block. The River of Time, an immersive video installation, reflects on her identity, where she stands in the world, and her family’s artistic lineage. Her interactive mural at the Lawrence Community Shelter, Hope Blossoming, invites collaboration and allows a moment to recognize the people in our communities. Moving between the personal and the universal, this film reveals how art can bridge distance, circumstance, and time.
