Mademoiselle Eugenie H. Galloo was a professor of romance languages at the University of Kansas and the first president of the Kansas Modern Language Association. Framed by lush draperies, she sits quietly reading a book in a relaxed pose, indicating her academic competence. When she sat for this work on a snowy day in 1903, Galloo had become a success and would continue her career for 37 more years until her death in 1941.
