Shimomura started teaching performance art at the University of Kansas in 1984, which he said proved to be “the most exciting academic involvement I had during my career.” He goes on to explain the impetus: “I studied filmmaking in graduate school as well as painting, and I have always been interested in a linear form of expression. There has always been a performance art component in the basic art classes I taught in graduate school as well as at KU.”
This excerpt includes performances by students Doni-Marie Rutledge, John Liebrand, Marsha Paludan, and Tony Allard. Displayed above is the list of prohibited acts every student received on the first day of class.
