Japanese-born performance artist and filmmaker Yoko Ono is equally renowned as a peace activist. In 2007, Ono conceived of IMAGINE PEACE in Reykjavik, Iceland in memory of her partner, John Lennon. Symbolizing Lennon and Ono’s continuing campaign for world peace, which began in the sixties, IMAGINE PEACE became Ono’s worldwide initiative of anti-violence. This ongoing initiative uses internet projects and presence, posters, thoughts, badges, and a multitude of other media to communicate its message of peace to the global community. This flag is part of Ono’s timely long-term project whose impact continues to grow.
