Composed of spiraling vertebrae-like structures, Japanese artist Odani Motohiko’s complex sculptures span genres, existing between beauty and horror. His creations suggest futuristic prosthetic technology and have been described as “phantoms.” For Temporal Turn, Odani created a new iteration of his ongoing series Sculpture Project 2 (SP2) New Born. While previous works in the series have been bone-colored and fossil-like, this version glimmers with a metallic sheen like the remnant of an alien civilization.
