Artists from both inside and outside the United States have noted the prominence of violence in U.S. society. Each of these three prints explores different aspects of its relation to the ideals of America. American artists Richard Basil Mock and Roger Shimomura connect a violent state of mind with ideas of family and patriotism. Egyptian artist Ganzeer’s representation of the Statue of Liberty firing a pistol in the air presents an aggressive approach to freedom.
