Ada Charles devoted 95 years of her life to traditional basket-making. Charles spent most of her life in the small town of Klamath, which is located within the Yurok Indian Reservation. Some of her fondest memories were of collecting and processing basket materials such as bear grass, hazel sticks, spruce roots, and maidenhair ferns. She knew precisely when basket-making components were ready for harvest. She wove baskets until 2010 when her hands became too weak. Prior to her death, Charles was the oldest living member of the Yurok Tribe.
