For the better part of his long life, Mor Gueye has been creating reverse paintings on glass at his studio in Dakar. Many of these paintings depict events from the life of Sheikh Amadou Bamba-an iconic Muslim leader and founder of the Muridiyya Sufi Brotherhood. Gueye, a devout member of the Baye Fall (a Senegalese sect of Muridiyya), recounts that Amadou Bamba‘s appearance in his dreams first inspired him to paint; he is now one of Senegal’s most celebrated and widely exhibited artists.
