(No. 5)Here the Nine-patch is developed into an even more complex Chain, one that appears to “double” the pattern. Like the single Irish Chain in Quilt No. 5, the pattern is set on a diagonal across the surface, producing a sense of movement and tension. The white squares become a more assertive and eye-catching part of the design when the Nine-patch pattern is elaborated.
