"Chokwe Art from the Claude D. Brown Collection," Feb-2000
Heraldic bird carvings were used to decorate combs, staffs, and the backs of thrones. Depending on the type of bird represented, the bird would be associated with royalty, spirituality, awareness, hunting prowess, or fertility.
