Falter’s painting Newsboy appeared on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post on April 14, 1951. The work depicts the Atchison neighborhood where Falter’s parents lived with amusing touches that make the work more whimsical and indicative of a universal, rather than specific concept of small town America.

Trained at the Kansas City Art Institute, John Falter is best known for his work as an illustrator. Newsboy is one of many paintings that Falter produced for covers of The Saturday Evening Post, in this case April 14, 1951. This scene depicts South Fourth Street in Atchison, Kansas, near the home of the artist's father.
