This painting may be a view from the west bank of the Untersee, a swimming lake attached to Lake Eibsee in Bavaria, Germany. On the far left of the mountain range the Waxenstein peak almost disappears into the mist. The painting suggests nostalgia for an earlier time, especially since it was likely painted after World War II. Eibsee remains a popular vacation destination offering hiking, boating, swimming, and close proximity to the ski slopes of Zugspitze Peak.
