Stained glass roundels from Medieval Europe often portray religious Christian themes as in The Annunciation or secular themes as in the Nuremberg armorial and landsknecht. Roundels were largely produced in sequential narrative sets or sometimes as individual scenes. As natural light shimmered through the colored glass, these paintings transformed over the course of day and night. Light, in all its forms, has come to symbolize knowledge, power, and enlightenment.
