Drawing Studio: Still Life

The jewel tones of the olive green table top and sapphire blue wall frame a crisp white linen and set the stage for Lawrence artist Robert Seaver’s exploration of surfaces and symbols. Still life arrangements have a long history of featuring objects with curved reflective surfaces like the clear glass bowl, glazed ceramic bowl, and polished metal container shown here. Such objects challenge artists to demonstrate their technical skills. Other objects, like the shell and folded card may possess personal meaning or stand as symbols to communicate hidden messages to the viewer.

How can you create the illusion of light and reflection in your own still life?
