Archive Label 1999:
After receiving her B.F.A. in art from the University of Kansas in 1968, Evans concentrated on figure photography until a friend invited her to a survey site on the prairie near her Salina home. She began investigating the diversity of the prairie grasses and the structure of its ecosystem. Between Kearney and Salina, June 13, 1990 captures the pattern of the planted field, and offers a moment in the annual cycle of the crop that symbolizes Kansas.
