This painting depicts the Mexican skyline of Taxco in thick, rippling oil paint. As a city built on a steep incline, Taxco is arranged in rising rows of bright stone architecture. The painting suggests this elevation through the raised levels of the buildings between its foreground and background. Artist Jaime Oates abstracted the city’s architecture, blurring and softening its outline. Splashes of green and red suggest the local flora, and a light blue sky envelopes the calm urban scenery.
