Franklin D. Murphy Lecture Series: Three Moments of Awakening: Roger Shimomura, TT Takemoto, Tsutaja Gaku

Professor Hiroko Ikegami examines three politically charged artists of Japanese descent—Roger Shimomura, TT Takemoto, and Gaku Tsutaja. Each artist has engaged with issues such as incarceration, sexual minorities, nuclear violence, and race-based marginalization over the past several decades. Ikegami will illuminate their respective moments of “awakening” to show how these artists developed political concerns and transformed them into the works for which they are best known.
