Júlia Justína Zavacká (1891–1972) was born in Austria-Hungary (present-day Slovakia) and married Andrij Varkhola before the couple immigrated to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and received the Americanized surname “Warhola.” Widowed in 1942, she raised three sons, and eventually moved to New York, where her son Andy supported her as his art career flourished.
