This work is a result of the artist’s reflection on the lines he draws in relation to the lines and impressions left in soils by earthworms. The worms’ lines seemed strikingly spontaneous in relation to the habits of convention that inhibit and determine Ross’s own drawing practices. The worm circle is an interruption in habits of convention.
Its uncanny production of the perfect circle underscores the tension between natural, organic forms and the precision involved in producing idealized forms.
