A pricking card is a pattern used by lace makers to create bobbin lace. Pins are inserted into the holes on the pricking and threads are wrapped around the pins in a certain order to make the lace. Sallie Casey Thayer may have collected the prickings in addition to lace specimens to illuminate the process of bobbin lace-making and give creative inspiration to the next generation of artists and designers. Although they share visual similarities, these pricking cards do not correspond directly with this particular lace fragment.
