Looking After: Art and Care in Education Across Kansas

Toys can make children and adults smile, evoking memories of play. This book documents traditional toys from Japan celebrating the seasons and festivals of each month of the year. Some related toys are also displayed in this case. The inu hariko, a papier-mâché dog figurine, is a protective toy often given to women about to give birth or to children. The treasure ship, carrying seven lucky gods, was said to arrive during the first days of the new year bringing wealth, long life, and prosperity.
