Danse studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. Danse designed glass windows, playing cards, and engraved copper cylinders in the textile factories of Ghent. After losing his job because of cotton shortages from the American Civil War, Danse devoted himself to art. He taught etching and engraving, focusing on painting after retirement. He remained active as a professional artist into his 80s.
