The vibrant colors of the gold and red sunrise are complemented by the vermillion of the shrine compound to the left. A woman, bundled against the bitter cold in a black over-kimono and blue headwrap, approaches to make abulutions. Another figure in a rough brown robe and reed hat is coming over the hill; a panoramic view of the town unfolds below. Hiroaki uses fresh, vibrant colors contrasted against the white of the snow to suggest the bitter cold of an early winter morning.
